Football isn’t just for men, it's for women, too. Not only as spectators, but also as active players. In fact, there’s an international women’s football tournament just as exciting as the men’s game: the MSIG Serenity Cup™, previously known as the ASEAN Women’s Championship.
The ASEAN Women’s Championship is one of four major tournaments in ASEAN. The other three are the ASEAN Championship (AFF Cup), the ASEAN U-23 Championship (AFF U-23 Cup), and the ASEAN Club Championship. These four tournaments are part of the ASEAN United FC.
Each tournament involves countries from the ASEAN region, as well as Australia, whose football association is officially affiliated with ASEAN. While all countries have the opportunity to participate, only those that qualify through the initial rounds can advance to the final group stage for a chance to win the championship.
The ASEAN Women’s Championship has been held since 2004, with a total of 12 tournaments organized every 2 or 3 years. In the most recent tournament, the Philippines claimed the title after defeating Thailand with a score of 3-0. Despite the loss, Thailand still holds the record for the most wins in the ASEAN Women’s Championship, with a total of four titles.
This year, the 2025 ASEAN Women’s Championship becomes a special edition thanks to several changes. First, the tournament was rebranded after MSIG Insurance became the first-ever title partner. As a result, the name of this international football tournament was officially changed to the MSIG Serenity Cup™. The name change was officially announced in March 2025.
The renaming also reflects MSIG’s partnership with the AFF as the Official Insurance Partner. This is significant because it’s the first time the ASEAN Women’s Championship has ever had a title partner, following the other three ASEAN United FC tournaments that already do.
MSIG's role as the ASEAN Women's Championship title partner also demonstrates its support for women's football. It reinforces the tournament's importance in elevating the quality of female footballers across the ASEAN region.
The second highlight of the 2025 MSIG Serenity Cup™ is the change in tournament structure. In most sporting events, all participating countries go through group qualifiers. However, in this case, not all countries enter the qualifying stage, as some are given a direct path to the main tournament.
The qualifying round of the 2025 MSIG Serenity Cup™ is called the ASEAN Women’s Cup, featuring six countries: Indonesia, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Malaysia, Laos, and Singapore. Each country competes in this round and only the top three teams advance to the 2025 MSIG Serenity Cup™.
In the ASEAN Women’s Cup held at the end of 2024, Indonesia came out on top and secured its place in the 2025 MSIG Serenity Cup™. The two other countries that qualified to compete are Cambodia and Singapore. Meanwhile, the other three countries had to accept defeat and could not continue their journey in the tournament.
The three qualified teams will join five other nations that had already qualified: the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, and Myanmar. The draw to determine the group stage allocations took place on June 9, 2025, in Vietnam, the host of the 2025 MSIG Serenity Cup™. Here are the results:
Group A
Group B
